Blue Water Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor for one of our clients based in the Bristol area. Our client specialises in key construction projects such as office, retail, and schools / universities developments.

 

The successful candidate will be joining the commercial team and be reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor/ Commercial Manager for a Tier 1 Contractor.

 

Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor but not limited to:

 

  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities
  • Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work
  • Assist in establishing client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies
  • Perform risk, value management and cost control
  • Identify, analyse, and develop responses to commercial risks
  • Prepare and analyse costings for tenders
  • Allocate work to subcontractors
  • Provide advice on contractual claims
  • Value completed work and arranged payments
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Value recovery and cost control
  • Assisting in the production of Final Accounts


Essential Criteria:


  • Qualified at degree level
  • Demonstrable and proven track record working for a large main contractor in the construction industry
  • Experience in working within a team
  • A positive, proactive individual that works collaboratively with colleagues and the client team
  • An expert negotiator with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Confident and experienced in the use of Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word

You will be responsible for ensuring all Electrical assets are maintained to a high standard, meeting all statutory and legislative requirements. Key Responsibilities: Lead the co-ordination and delivery of electrical services: Lightning Protection, PAT testing, Fixed Wire testing, Refuge System (Emergency Voice Communication System), Emergency Lighting, High Voltage works Ensure that all paperwork and certification associated with inspections is secured and share with the Health and Safety Team. To oversee the preparation of a programme of proactive maintenance works To provide advice and guidance on the best approach to address reactive maintenance works To co-ordinate available in-house/external contractor resources in pursuit of best value service delivery of all aspects of the workload. To line manage in house Electricians To support the preparation of drawings, specifications, schedule of works and invitations to tender, to enable the letting of contracts involving electrical works. About You: Excellent knowledge of electrical engineering services (ideally including high voltage equipment) Hold a qualification in electrical engineering, and a qualification in the IET 17th edition wiring regulations. Have experience of the planning and implementation of proactive and reactive maintenance programmes of work. IT literate in Microsoft software packages, and capable of quickly learning how to use new IT systems. To line manage in house Plumbing & Heating Engineers, providing support, guidance and leadership. To support the preparation of drawings, specifications, schedule of works and invitations to tender, to enable the letting of contracts involving mechanical works. To inspect works in progress by in-house staff and external contractors, ensuring quality standards are met. To manage any delegated budgets, aligned expenditure to budget accordingly. To promote best practice within the discipline of Engineering Services and ensure that the University acts within the law and in accordance with all current legislation. About You: Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering services Hold a qualification in mechanical engineering Knowledge of health and safety in the working environment, including the control of asbestos, legionella prevention, and associated legislation. (IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent qualification would be desirable) Experience of managing an internal trades team and external contractors. IT literate in Microsoft software packages, the use of BMS systems, and capable of quickly learning how to use new IT systems.
